Jordy Oakland

Jordy Oakland is the Special Projects Coordinator for Project Zero, working closely with PZ’s Co-Directors Carrie James and Liz Dawes Duraisingh on initiatives like the Project Zero Doctoral Fellowships and the PZ Student Research Cohort. She oversees aspects of Project Zero’s cultural life, including the speaker series, community events, and art installations in the PZ space.

Jordy is also a teaching artist in Boston-area schools. She is interested in the relationship between words, the body, and the physical spaces we inhabit. Her work, with a focus on pre-K-3rd grade learners, emphasizes embodying the stories they tell from both lived experience and imaginary circumstances to center youth as the artists and producers of culture they are. Her work uses the tools of embodied storytelling and collaborative performance to place the body at the center of teaching and learning within our regular classroom walls. She is a great fan of the work of Vivian Paley, Shakespeare & Co., and Mary Overlie.

Jordy has been a Teaching Fellow for HGSE courses in the Arts & Learning concentration (A&L) and the Learning Technology Innovation and Design program (LDIT) exploring the nature of generative collaboration and the conditions that create effective teams, groups, and communities across settings.

Jordy’s background is in theater, film, and arts education. She holds degrees from Emerson College and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
